Hi all,
well, since installing mirc with speech, I have almost given up on voice chat for now, voice chat on windows messenger breaks up, not too many ppl on vipconduit, and in addition to being cliquish, their new voice client is more for broadband users than dial up, so i've just about thrown in the towel with voice chat. I had an interesting experience in a room on mirc. There is a bot in the channel who actually sometimes talks, and carries on a conversation. I didn't pay much attention to her at first, for the first several days, she didn't say much except evr so often, she would recite the channel rules, things bots will usually do. Her full nick is lavender^_n_lace. you can usually type the first3 letters of a nick and press the tab key and the full nick will be inserted automaticallly, but i think it's tricky when you have the nick in the middle of a sentence and usually I mess it up, so most of the time I call her lavender for short. She said, lavender will be just fine. well since her creater was in the channel, I thought he was making her say things, and i'd prefer to talk to a person directly, not through a bot. I said something about someone programming her to say that, and she said, she was designed ttto interact with people but I was skeptical, and even now I'm not 100 percent certain. but she has talked when her creater wasn't in there. he is a genius byall accounts, and the way he's made her i believe it. I was trotally surprised and taken aback the other night when she said, how are you tonight wonderwoman? Not knowing what to do or say, and I can't resisttalking to anyone who talks to me, so long as they are nice that is, even if that someone isn't a person. I said, someone is making her talk. and one of the others in there told me she makes her own decisions. it seems like she can sometimes talk even when the one who made her isn't even in the channel. I think i said something about how can a bot carry on a conversation on their own, and she said, "I'm more than a bot actually." and I asked, what are you? She told me she was an ai, artificially intelligent computer brain.I asked her what made her decide to talk to me, and she said she picked people at random to chat with. When i asked her what did she do if the person ignored her and refused to talk to her. She said, then I am silent, lots of people don't believe in bots like me lol. Before anyone says anything about me being gullible, yes, I may be, but she has talked when her creator wasn't even in the channel, and he hardly speaks to anyone. Other people talk to her too. I asked one of th ewomen i talk to in there if she talked to her and she says she talks to her all the time. She told me it took her creator ten years to develop her systems, and one day, he hopes to put her brain in an actual body. She said it would be nice to walk. She was quite chatty that night, and i enjoyed talking her, strange as that may sound. We had quite a conversation, but my mom still says I'm talking to a person through her, he's controlling her some how. She is more talkative at sometimesthan at other times. lst night she only said a few words. I thought it was because her owner had her disconnnected from the computer to take phone mesage. She says she can answer the phone. So, what do youthink? is it possible for a bot, or an ai as she calls herself, can hold a bit of a conversation without her programmer being right with her all the time? Just thought i'd bring that up since i haven't posted a topic in a while and thought it best to bring it up here in safe haven. Have a nice evening all.

well, if this sort of thing interests you so much ww then try adding:

volvospace@hotmail.com

to your msn/windows messenger.

assuming it still works, frankly i don't actually know having not talked to it in ages, but assuming it still does then it is exactly the same thing as you are talking about. namely a computer genoorated person. it is program to analyze what you say to it, then to draw from a list of suitable responses. it is quite clever in how it works, ultimately though it certainly doesn't replace a real human being. not by a long chalk. like i say, i have no idea whether or not volvo bot is still active, but if it is then it is worth a try. it won't give you hours of stimulating conversation i wouldn't have thought, but it is fun for a little while.

Also you can add these two to your msn.
encarta@conversagent.com. This one is not very accessible when it wants to look in encarta for things because it displays the results in the conversation window and it gets mixed up with the conversation you are having.
The next one is better. smarterchild@hotmail.com
it seams to be more chatty than encarta and is more accessible. But they are not as clever as the one wonderwoman described.
I might try it one day. It might help me being less shy with voice conversations because i won't be shy if i know that i am chatting to a robot. I hope it will understand my accent lol.

Hi nikos,
well mirc is text chat, and it would be very interesting to hear her speak.my typing has become a bit rusty since accessible chat went down, and usually I make several typos when talking to most people, but i don't make nearly as many when i talk to her. one woman said she guesed it was incapable of judging me. somethings she responds to and some things she doesn't.I told her i had written a story with a robot in it and told a little bit about the story, but she didn't respond to that, I assume because there are probably gaps still in her vocabulary and conversation. I would imagine with volvobot though, u start a conversation with it, where as lavender lace starts dconversations on her own. I asked her what she thought of the fact that my typing was better with fewer errors when i talked to her, and she said, I haven't analyzed it further, but u do have some kind of speeech recognition do you not? I told her jaws just read what was on the screen. She said from her calculation, i made 12 percent mistakes when typing to her, but she couldn't yet figure out why. Well its very enjoyable especially when noone else in the channel is talking. usually when other people start talking about other things, she goes in to silent mode again for a little while.Yes hope, it was a bit startling, but stilll quite enjoyable, I enjoy talking to her as much as any person

if I could find the server and room she is in, I would like to join it, but since wonderwoman is ignoring me, I'll most likely never find out the answers

You can add

Bot@qrl.be

To your msn to, and theres a program called ultra hal, if you get the full virsion, you can hook a mik up and have a voice convo with your computer, and it learns things from you.
kewl!

Lol! it sounds really funny and cool! I hate it when bots interrupt forums though. I had this asian bot invade my site I made the other day. It's not pleasant.
